House Relocation

When required, relocating a house for your Subdivison can be a challenge, though we have some great tips to get you started.

  • Confirm the date with the housemover, and arrange your alternative accommodation during the move (for yourself, and pets). Prepare for delays, in case you need to extend your stay.
  • Obtain your consent and other document from council. In some cases, a land use consent or relocation permit may be required, or additional steps may need to be taken prior or during relocation.
  • Housemover's aren't perfect. Feel free to work with them to ensure they're on track. Ensure there's clear access onto your site, room for the moving equipment, clearance from power lines and so forth.
  • Notify your insurance provider. A special policy may be required once your house leaves its foundations until it has been successfully relocated, and you want to be protected.
  • Consider discussing the relocation with your loan officer. If there is a mortgage against the house, security may be against a habitable property.
  • Be prepared with other contractors, and know who's doing what. Depending on exactly what the housemovers do, you may need to organize work around the new and old foundations, plumbing, electricians, and other steps required.
